Discover Rome by sketching in sunlit piazzas and ancient ruins, and learn to craft your handmade sketchbook at a gorgeous rooftop studio in the heart of the city!

Sessions last 2.5 hours and include a workshop where you’ll use Italian watercolour paper to craft a handmade sketchbook at Inky Larks studio, and an inspiring walk to beautiful spots to sketch – where we’ll share ideas and I’ll help out with prompts and light guidance.

The route:
- The grand theatre of Ancient Rome: you’ll stroll through the ruins of Teatro Marcello filling your sketchbook with colours, beauty and history.

- A Square designed by Michelangelo: Here you’ll draw and be inspired, as artists have done for centuries, by the views and ancient statues of the Campidoglio.

- A lively piazza full of charm: end with loose, fun sketching in Piazza Mattei, with its bronze Turtle Fountain and bustling café.

FAQs:
Should I bring my own art materials? All materials are included (but feel free to bring some of your favourite materials if you’d like to).

How hard is the walk? It’s an easy, comfortable walk, but please note that there’s no lift and Inky Larks studio is on the 4th floor.
Is the route fixed? It may vary a little to suit the day (weather conditions, season etc.) See below if you’d like to book a personalised, customised walk.

Who are these walks for? We’ve designed these walks for curious, creative people — whether you draw regularly or haven’t picked up a sketchbook in years. You don’t need formal training or technical skills.
If you’d like to:
- take time to look closely at the beauty around you and really savour it
- express yourself freely and playfully through drawing
- experience your stay in Rome in a joyful, creative way
then you’ll feel at home here.

I’m travelling with my family and kids, can they join too? Of course, this is a beginner-friendly and family-friendly experience. Kids even get a discounted rate!
What if I feel super shy? Many people feel hesitant about drawing in public — these small group walks are a nurturing, warm environment where this self-consciousness quickly fades away.

Private Sketchbook Walks
For a more personal experience, private sketchbook walks can be arranged — shaped around your interests, pace, and the places you feel most drawn to.
You might wander through quiet streets, sketch well-known landmarks or follow a theme that inspires your work.

You could also follow the footsteps of great women artists in Rome — from Artemisia Gentileschi, who learned to paint and mix pigments at her father’s workshop in Via Margutta, to Angelica Kauffman, who experimented with light and gesture by sketching the ancient statues and works of art in Rome.
Private bookings can be made directly via Airbnb, where you can select your preferred date and request a private group. If you have something specific in mind, feel free to get in touch in advance to discuss your ideal walk.

We’re so happy to welcome you to Inky Larks!
