Lizzy Stewart
Lizzy writes and illustrates beautiful picturebooks and graphic novels for adults. In 2017 her picture book ‘There’s a Tiger in the Garden’ won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and the World Illustration Award!
She teaches illustration at Goldsmiths University in London, and has also taught courses at the Tate and on behalf of the National Portrait Gallery.
Lizzy’s also writes and illustrates books novels for adults.

Lizzy’s Picturebook Retreat
Friday 30th October – Wednesday 4th November 2026 TBC
We’ll explore each stage of the picturebook process together:
from generating ideas through to making rough sketches and eventually finished illustrations, all the while, focusing on enriching your storytelling both in words and pictures.
You’ll learn about character, pacing, plot and composition, with plenty of time to work on existing projects (or start something from scratch if you’re feeling brave!).
You’ll have a fun, exploratory time that will open up new creative avenues for you!
What’s included?
Welcome drinks and a delicious, vegetarian buffet at Inky Larks on the first night.
5 1/2 days at the Inky Larks studio to delve into your picturebook project and craft your dummy book.
5 Picturebook Making Workshops with Lizzy. You’ll learn about generating ideas, character, pacing, plot and composition… and more!
Daily Sketching Outings at the stunning sites around the Inky Larks studio, at a museum and around the quaint cafès and squares.
Daily Feedback sessions to get personal support and inspiration for your picturebook.
Breakfast every day on the Inky Larks roof terrace with freshly baked cornetti, cappuccino, fruit and tea.
On the last night we’ll read out our completed dummy books, and celebrate the great work done with a fabulous, festive homemade Italian dinner and drinks!
